  how long in truth,,,what was the final "straw"

  i was in for 30 years.....my ex was an elder...."holy spirit appointed" he tortured me....i was married 33+ years....you know,,,marriage is sacred...you can leave,,,i know,,,,if abuse is intolerable....but that starts a series of events...etc etc etc....i finally left everything...and moved far away.....people actually believe "holy spirit" appoints people,,,my ex would not pray unless there was an audience...you know,,,,people invited over for supper kind of thing,,,you get the point..... my best friend had a mental breakdown,,,,she basically became psychotic.....had to be hospitalized....she took up smoking,,,got disfellowshipped...and lost all emotional support....to this day,,,,as far as i know,,,she is still disfellowshipped...needs to be hospitialized every so often....she is on complete disability.....and still trying to get back into the org....her mother does support some what,,,,even though she is a witness herself,,,,,takes her to assemblies,,,,memorial,,,etc,,,,this has gone on for years.....she cannot mentally handle the organization,,,nor can she mentally handle not being a witness...lost everything....guilt....etc..... did not mean to ramble on so much......i have mental scars that will not go away....because i stayed in a "mess" for god,,,,i could write page after page of things like the above....as being my "last straw".......curious about you here on the board....any specific "breaking point" or a collection of many things..... thanks for your in put...peaches.

  Is this normal?

  is it normal........after a year of being out of the org... and (to ditch everything in your life that made you feel worthless), is it normal, to still feel despair and a certain level of depression?.

  i am going between extreme happiness and contentment ......relief and optimism, to a downright spiral of hitting the depths of somewhere dark and murky, that i know i dont want to be.

  its scary and i dont like it.

  many witnesses got married at a young age (because they felt they had to).

  you can't sin, right?.

  some people get married and for years, are very happy.

  YES!!! my entire view of sex and marriage has changed!!! I married young as a jw and divorced after way way too many bad years!!! Still had JW mentality so i got married after not much dating to a wonderful worldly man but didn't want to "sin" so we got married? Turns out they want to DF me for getting married although I was free!!! if i could do it over i would have just enjoyed the dating time and let them df me!!! What right do they have in ANYONES bedroom anyway?

  as far as going to meedings and fs I left instantly!!! one month 10 hours made all the meeding - then never to go again!!! but as for the emotional that was more complicated it's been 1 1/2 years and it still has some control over my life... less and less all the time

  already had doubts from the time i got pubes... but i was about 15 and we were studying the revelation "book" for the upteenth time.

  i realized for every actual bible verse they qouted there was 2-3 paragraphs of conjecture, assumption, faulty logic and just plain stupidity.

  that's when i began to plan my escape.

  Raised in it so always tried to MAKE it fit!! All the prophecy books made me think but i thought i needed to trust the borg so just put my thoughts to the side. I didn't start questioning for real until I was treated like crap by the congregation i thought loved me!!! after I started to look at it the light just turned on and I'll never turn it off!!!

  having read ray franz's " crisis of conscience " 3 years ago -before i read steve hassan's 2 books on mind control - my wife and i thought it would be good to re-read ray's " crisis " book again now that we know more about the workings of " cult mind control".

  we just finished chapter 2 and i noticed striking similarities i thought i would share.. notice this quote in " crisis of conscience " on pg.

  28 & 29 by franz , " thus numerous factors that are relatively common knowledge in many religious organizations are known only vaguely , if at all, by the vast majority of jehovah's witnesses.
